I would like to congratulate Mark Peters and Ian McKendrick, presenters of the popular weekly Sunday morning business radio show, for its network launch today throughout East Anglia. The Business Hub only started a few months ago covering Cambridge and Ely, but is now available to listeners throughout the region. Next year it is hoped it will be networked nationwide.
There is obviously a huge demand for the business show as about 4,000 people a week download its podcast – amazingly, half from America. Listeners from across the pond will be no stranger to today’s guest Tom Dickson – a major coup for Mark and Ian as Tom is an internet sensation following his use of videos as a viral marketing tool to sell his Blendtec blender. From an original $50 dollar budget, Tom’s series of videos showing his blender destructively tearing various objects to shreds, including an iPhone and iPad, attract an astonishing 60 million hits a week; they have had an estimated 500 million hits since their launch almost four years ago.
Mark and Ian’s interview unravels Tom’s unusual career path which includes an unexpected disclosure. If you download today’s podcast, you will also hear details about a competition offering you the chance to challenge Tom about what you would like him throw into his high powered blender, and the winner will receive one of his coveted blenders which are not yet available in the UK.
I sat in on the transatlantic interview, which was hilarious in parts and can be seen in the video below. The second video is a behind the scenes look of the recording studio with Mark and Ian describing why they started the Business Hub, and their passion to help businesses succeed by broadcasting quality interviews in an informal style. Psychic Derek Acorah is lined up for an interview soon – another unmissable show.
Mark and Ian are terrific guys and I wish them every success.
