I had toothache all weekend and managed to get an emergency appointment this morning (private with Denplan). How else these days? It turned out I had nasty abscess and the root of the tooth was fractured so nothing could be done to save it and it was whipped out.
I had been warned before that I was on borrowed time with this tooth, that it was very iffy. Because it was fractured, it came out in bits and the whole area is very sore due to the abscess. I also have a throbbing headache.
So apologies if I don’t get round to visiting my regular blog sites today, or instantly respond to comments. I plan to put my feet up on the sofa and catch up with a couple of old videos and some reading.
I also plan to have a blog light week as it is half-term and there is a long list of tasks I need to accomplish with the boys, as well as keeping on top of work.
In the meantime, I shall try and keep smiling ….
I hope you feel comfortable again soon Ellee. I had to go on to Denplan too, but I reckon I quickly recouped a year’s subscription when I was due for a coronation.
Sincerely hope all well with you very soon Ellee and your honey is looking after you with at least tea and sympathy. Can you eat? Hope so. All v. best,
Pip x
My heart goes out to you. Be kind and gentle to yourself.
An extraction is tough. I’ll have to consider Denplan, as my dentist is so extortionate.
Oh dont talk about teeth and dentists and the costs never mind the discomfort .
Im definately coming back as a tortoise next time ( they dont have any teeth )
I hate everything about the dental profession .
Have you noticed how unsympathetic they are whenever they have you on that seat .
You feel like a leaper as they tell you what you need attending to .
Still you could have something much worse is what I always try to tell myself when hanging backwards at their mercy.
Oh, Ellee, that sounds so painful. Poor you! Do take care .
I’m made of stern stuff and I’m on the mend. I find it hard to sit still and not be active. I did enjoy resting and watching a Morse dvd that came free with the newspaper. I do love Morse, particularly as John Thaw looks so much like my father who died five years ago, they have similar mannerisms too. Two great men who are both missed very much.
ouch, I ahte the dentist too and hope this one visit sorts you out for a few years!
CU, It is well known that men are cowards when it comes to the dentist. My dentist has a very large window which almost reaches down to the floor and a fabulous garden to admire, so it is very calming, and he plays lovely music too, and I have confidence in him.
My next big decision will be to decide whether to have a bridge or inplant. I had an inplant last year and I didn’t enjoy it at all, plus it was hugely expensive.
Poor Ellee. How nasty for you. I hope you are on antibiotics to prevent infection.
Enjoy your enforced vacation on the couch!
Poor you! At least you should be in fine fettle to enjoy our lunch
JMB, yes, I am on antibiotics, hoping they are doing their job. I was hoping to go to the gym this morning, but still have a headache. However, I am soldiering on and managing to keep on top of work and daily chores.
Ellee
Poor love!
Tell me is Denplan really worth it in the long-run?
I pay(in London)about £250 per annum on check up’s and a hygenist. How much is Denplan cover for the average person?
Ooops, seems aging and decay, even tooth decay go hand in hand.
No good crying over spilt milk, or shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, but perhaps we should be able to varnish & protect our teeth (regularly) for the price of a manicure.
Hoping your headache gets better (goes away).
I’m sure a nice foot rub would help send it on its way
Hope you feel better soon.
When I get to heaven I am going to ask God ‘why teeth?’ Or more to the point, why nerves in teeth? Although I’ve not been hurt by the dentist for many years, I still break out in a cold sweat when I have to go for a check-up.
Enjoy the rest of half-term.
Sorry to hear of such a painful ordeal, Ellee! Take good care!!
Get well soon, Ellee.
Ellee if you can yet again afford an inplant ( and if they work on you ) have one.
I went for a bridge !
It was simple and I thought no problem , but it took me ages to adjust to it being there .
Even though it looks pretty small wait till you try putting it in and then getting your tongue and reflexess to adjust to this foreign body.
I used to be Ok till Id had a meal , then if I couldnt immediately go and clean my teeth used find myself in really difficulty ( wont go into the details here )
So if you can go for the proper solution , fill the space with something you dont have to think about , clean seperately , and worry will come adrift .
To “throw the subject open wider”…
The British habit of “removing one’s own teeth with plyers” has hit worldwide headlines…
Having heard all that, I thought the influx of overqualified POLES had stemmed the gap in our NHS dentistry…
evidently not!
Ho hum.
Just thought I would make my political point of the day.
Just remember one less tooth is one less worry!
Take care!!

“Vol 2″….
I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted last year… what a nightmare!
Georgegirl, I have had an inplant before, it was a very painful experience, the worst I have known since childbirth (and I had a 10lb 2oz baby with no pain relief). The dentist did tell me it wouldn’t be so bad for this other tooth, that he wouldn’t need to use the hammer!
My sister swears by bridges, but I admit I would prefer an inplant for aesthetic reasons. The last one cost almost £2,000, how they can justify such a colossal price?
Hi Ellee,
Yes I know the price these dentists charge for inplants , daylight robbery comes to mind.
All private work is horribly expensive nowadays.
The dentists must all be getting on to be millionaires .
They cant justify the price but dont need to try as they have us all over a barrel .
I reckon a Scottish friend who was only 15 years old when they took out all her teeth had the right idea .
Now she has a lovely new set once in a blue moon and never has toothache !
She cant even remember now why they had to come out but it seems it was fairly routine up in the highlands at that time.
