Apparently Question Time has a new look when it returns this evening, and we can email questions in advance to quiz the panelists.
Tonight they include Chief Whip Geoff Hoon; Conservative MP John Redwood; Lord Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democrats; editor Janet Street-Porter and CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour.
However, it’s always the unpredictability of the audience that brings this live programme to life. I have previously admitted to having a soft spot for David Dimbleby. I was once in the audience, he had such a warm and open manner, he was great fun.
My hunch is that questions tonight could include the true cost of migrant workers in the UK, Northern Rock and the position of Mervyn King, supermarket price fixing, as well as the subject of ageism and Sir Menzies Campbell. What else do you think might come up? They usually throw in a light hearted one too, it might be about Mourinho’s shock departure from Chelsea.
You can check out if the programme is coming to your area and join in, it is great fun, and you get well fed too.
Update: Like Iain, I have heard that Brown could announce a general election on the last day of the Labour Party Conference. If nothing is said then, the chances are it won’t happen this autumn. Will this get a mention tonight?
lol Elle, at least Brown has publicly refrained from demanding regime change or declaring war on Zimbabwe.
I like the police statement on migrants: “we are not saying they are more criminal than the rest of us, but they are placing increasing demands on our already over stretched resources” – translate – we want more funds.
It is not so much consumers need complain about the price of milk, I think dairy farmers are feeling the pinch – and the poor cows are being milked dry, repeatedly – lol
We can’t really expect them to give more.
I’m sure those e mails will be processed to only allow questions the BBC approve of.
I miss that programme, Ellee. I have attended it “live” and it was fascinating.
The credit crunch, Northern Rock and the issues surrounding it will definately be in, there will be a face off between Redwood and Hoon on that.
As this is the 1st QT back after summer I reckon Gordon Brown’s rise / Cameron’s slump in the opinion polls may be a question too.
Then there is the question of trial by media / over-reaction to the McCann disappearance.
Stephen, yes, the McCanns,I had overlooked that one. Trial by which media? The McCanns want this story in the paper every day, but those horrendous allegations claiming they were involved in Madeleine’s disappearance were just too unbelievable and cruel.
