If Richard Branson is so keen to promote environmentally friendly holidays, why not buy  a showcase island closer to home than the Caribbean? Won’t the negatives associated with long haul flights  undo any of the positives from staying in his carbon neutral holiday resort?

I would have been far more impressed if Branson had looked to Europe, especially the UK, to demonstrate to wider audiences the message he wants to get across, to make it as accessible as possible to us lesser mortals. Why should this kind of holiday be a luxury item? The sort of person who can afford it will probably have three or four holidays a year at least and live a high carbon lifestyle.

If the island of Moskito in the British Virgin Islands lives up to its name, I would get eaten alive, so maybe it is just as well it is out of my reach. Carbon free holidays are nothing new anyway, I  shall look forward to my next one with pleasure – camping.
