I have just checked out Margot Wallstrom’s savvy blog, the EU’s Commissioner for Communications, and was very amused by her description of Nigel Farage as “a coward”. It seems she has reached the end of her tether as far as he is concerned.
Margot was in London a few days ago at an official function, meeting journalists and also mingled with students in a pub. This is what she said about Nigel:
“I think Nigel Farrage, the UKIP MEP, is a coward. He regularly comes to plenary sessions of the European Parliament, makes personal attacks and then leaves without having the courtesy to allow people to respond. Yesterday he was really barking up the wrong tree when he told me publicly that I should get out and meet real people, go to a pub or attend a sporting event. Of course as usual he left without allowing me a chance to reply. As anybody who reads my blog knows, I attend plenty of public meetings, go to the pub (although perhaps a little less frequently than Mr. Farrage) and would always be delighted to attend a hockey match (but spare me 5 days of cricket please!).”
Spoken straight from the hip. And yes, it is absolutely disgraceful to dish out the dirt, but not have the courtsey to allow the recipient to respond. And I wonder what she meant about the frequency of his trips to the pub?
This made me wonder whether the term “coward” is mainly used to describe men when the occasion arises; I cannot think of any examples of it being used against the fairer sex.
Incidentally, Nigel has a letter in today’s Telegraph inviting Conservative MEPs to sign up with his group – the cheek of the man!
