So Waity Katy has bagged her Prince Charming and will one day be our Queen following today’s announcement that the couple plan to marry next year. We are told that they became engaged last month during a private holiday in Kenya after dating for eight years.
I observed from this recent photo of them taken at a friend’s wedding that she seemed to radiate an inner glow which came from the knowledge of her well kept secret; news of wedding bells is no surprise after their long courtship.
Kate Middleton and Prince William fell in love as a couple of ordinary students after they shared a house and their romance was kept largely out of the public eye, though there was one incident where she took legal action after complaining of harassment. I doubt that will remain the case now they are engaged.
My only disappointment about her is that she was very privileged to have a university education, but has never had a job where she applied the knowledge she learnt. In fact, I really know very little about her, except that she likes clubbing, dresses beautifully and plays tennis. I am sure that is all about to change as she becomes an iconic public figure. Also, does anyone seem to care that he is marrying a Commoner? Does this matter for our royal lineage, barmy as as they are?
I wonder what happened to the royal wedding memorabilia which Woolworths produced just after the couple separated. Little could the store have predicted that while the couple would go on to wed, it was their sad demise which would follow.

Any people wonder why Woolworths went bust?
They split because of an unfortunate misunderstanding after she went into Woolworths to view the plates.
Word got back to William that she’d spent the whole afternoon chewing on mix. (Pick’n’mix)
William was heard to ask angrily of a palace courtier “Who the hell is Mick ???”
If Woolworths had explained the origin of the rumour then the wedding would have gone ahead and they’d still be in business.
As long as he’s not marrying a Catholic I guess he’s fine. I don’t know how IDS could have been PM – I doubt he would have renounced his faith. What I’m against is Charles becomming ‘Defender of Faith’ – a more stupid move the man could not make; no-one of a different faith will care less whether he chooses to style himself as their defender or not, but his own Anglican church will care. Stupid man.
Good point about Kate having a privileged education then spending her life doing little more than shopping and looking decorative. What annoys me more are wealthy people taking free places in top free schools when they can easily afford to pay. Cameron should be hauled into the Town square and flogged for being so selfish.
I wonder how long it will take for speculation of a Royal baby? I think Cameron would love that – he could bry any bad news.
I suppose she’ll now have plenty of time to enjoy her History of Art expertise
I was just thinking about the Woolworth memorabilia and a quick Google brought me to your post sharing the same thoughts. Wonder if anyone bought them up and is recycling them (as per the engagement ring of Diana’s which was a nice touch – provided you aren’t superstitious).
I have been touched to read about the love between William and Kate and how he gave her his mother’s engagement ring. I would be too scared to wear it in case anything happened to it! I think they can both do a lot to modernise the royal family.
Heather, the Woolworths memorabilia will probably be quite valuable now!
Pip, yes, what a problem if Kate had been Catholic.
WW, lucky Kate to have all that fine art to admire.
Ellee I worry that you think that having an education is only about using such to get a job.
Education is about making you a more informed and therefore rounded person .
It has value in its own right it is not about gatting you employment .
Sadly your view of education is one espoused by many of those now going through the system of university life with not enough brains to see the bigger picture of what they should be getting from it.
They are wasting tax payers money .
By the way seems highly possible that students from Cambridge Ruskin University ( Tech ) were the little darlings throwing heavy objects down on the police last week.
Perhaps they were annoyed cos they dont believe the courses there are worth 9 grand a year !
How awful to give her Diana’s ring 🙁 and how awful that everywhere i go and everything i read is about this wedding 🙁
I heard the wonderful news after I touched down in John Lennon last night, just back from Vienna. Of course it is a government conspiracy to generate a “feel good factor” during a time of hardship and there are already indications of an economic upturn from the sales of wedding merchandise and the jobs that will create. What with that, then Her Majesty’s jubilee and the Olympics the year after we’ll be out of the recession before you can say ‘Eurozone’.
He surely asked her what she thought about the ring in advance. It must be worth a King’s ransom, maybe she’ll cut and run and sell it on eBay. Maybe she’ll use an imitation for day-to-day wear.
I’m looking forward to getting my mug, I wonder if they’ll be out in time for Christmas!
Millions will be spent on this wedding and the security for it, at a time when people are really struggling. Why can’t these two boring people just elope?
I was delighted to hear this news; and I thought William’s decions to give Kate his mother ring was a beauiful one – it was the perfect way to honour her. And it is a gorgeous ring!
I don’t know a lot about Kate, but from what I do know, she seems perfect for William and I hope they are very happy 🙂
P.S. – I think you and I both know Ellee, that I am the one who has bagged a true Prince Charming 🙂
Hi Fiona, yes, I know who your Prince Charming is! And I agree! 🙂
