Congratulations to my son James and
his fellow players from Soham for becoming champions of their Under-17s football league in effect yesterday, though there is one more fixture game to play. The proud dads spayed them with bubbly afterwards and the jubilant team went out for an Indian meal to celebrate. James was on great form and his hat trick helped ensure their 4-1 victory against Histon in what was a clean and sportsmanlike game; he’s not even a striker, but plays midfield. Having a fair ref always helps too.
James will move up to the men’s league next season and the lads will drive themselves to matches. There will be no more need for mum to chauffeur him around and serve half-time teas, a ritual which I know I will miss. It’s the end of an era, another step into adulthood.
A huge thanks should go to to two Steves for coaching and managing this energetic team of testosterone on legs. I know the boys appreciated all the support they were given, and the parents too, especially as it is done voluntarily. We shouldn’t underestimate the value of football for youth teams as it trains our teenagers to be good leaders and team players, to be sociable, as well as keeping them fit.
Three cheers for Soham, hip hip, hooray!!…

Bravo!
Yes, congratulations James and teammates! I love the description, “testesterone on legs”.
Well done to James and the team… 🙂
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your lovely comments. Blog is a bit slow at the moment..hopefully I will bounce back soon. 🙂
Thank you everyone. Nimble footed James notched up another outstanding vicotry today when his Cambridge Sixth Form College beat Jesus College, a university team with players at least two years older than James, in a Cup Final match. The game was played at Cambridge University Rugby Club and their team behaved and played impeccably.
James plays for a number of football teams and reckons he has scored 50 or so goals this season. This is on top of his golf.
