The new Apple iPad looks amazing, particularly
its price tag which starts at £310. But it’s hard to justify buying if, like me, you already own a MacBook and iPhone. One of its feature which could tempt me one day is its iBook, but as I already have a score of books on my heaving bookcase which I haven’t had time to read, I doubt I will get round to it on this super slate either. But it is certainly a fantastic addition.
I also think it’s best to wait a year for the upgraded model of any innovative device to come out so any glitches can be modified.
However, my iPhone contract comes up for renewal in June and I’m pretty sure I will be tempted to upgrade it for the iPhone 4G which, according to the grapevine,is being launched this summer. New features it may include are a better camera, an OLED screen, improved GPS, a removable battery and different casing. I’ve also heard it’s going to be priced very competitively.
I’m pretty sure my friend blogger Geoff will not be able to resist the iPad, and I know it has enthralled Stephen Fry who was at the launch and is positively drooling over it. Are you?
I’m afraid I’m not tempted – in fact, last year I went into Cambridge looking for a mobile that merely sent and received phone calls, but ended up with something with more bells and whistles than I’d wanted because it was cheaper.
They are giving journos ipads to test. I offered to test it but sadly I’m not one of the favoured few. Are you, Ellee?
No Pip, still waiting 😉
It looks a bit big to carry in your handbag! But I’m confused after reading a post at James’s: is it a phone or a computer?
really like the look of iPhone 4 G simple but attractive ..and the price hopefully not too high,,,
What’s amazing ?
Battery does not last as long as a laptop, less memory than a laptop, only runs Apple apps, not other software, only allows one applicaiton open at any time, and already been accused of stifling innovation.
If it had any other badge on it other than an Apple, people would dismiss it. Other products do the same, for less, and will run windows and linux software.
What a dud the iPad is. They’d have been better off building the netbook everyone’s been hanging out for.
