Congratulations to Liz Truss on being selected the Conservative candidate for South West Norfolk where she will be a great asset.
I met her at the Conservative Conference in Manchester when she was chairing a fringe meeting and thought she was outstanding, and told her so afterwards.
I know of Liz through the Rerform think tank where she is Deputy Director and I have joined as an Associate Member. It hosts inspired meetings with the movers and shakers on the delivery of our public services and economic performance, critically analysing expert views and research.
My sincere commiserations to James Tumbridge who had set his heart on winning this seat and was a close runner up. He would also have been an excellent candidate. I hope James will not give up in his search, like Iain Dale who suffered a huge recent disappointment after losing the Bracknell seat and has pledged to continue.
Conservatives are indeed hugely fortunate in having a plethora of talented potential parliamentary candidates.
Whoops , Is this the ” lady ” who has been all over Radio 4 news at tea time after the members of her would be constituency discovered she had missed out a small fact on her CV ?
Still it seems that the Boy Dave says shes just the right girl for the job ( Camerons cuties !! )
So much for Tory family values .
Disaffected, I don’t think Liz’s past affair reflects on her abilities to perform her public duties. It never does for men, does it?
Which politician doesn’t promote family values? And is there a party with 100% MPs who have never done the same? Life is never black or white.
Let’s wait and see the outcome.
I think that’s a terrible expression, “Cameron’s cuties.” They are professional women. Full stop.
I think Ellie you will find that the newspapers are referring to the Tory would be women MPs as ” Camerons Cuties ” as they once called the Labour ones ” Blairs Babes ” prior to the Labour win.
And its not helped by the stupid lot having grinning girlie group pics taken .
Bet Maggie would never have taken part , but of course she was a real politician .
By the way has Cameron lost his marbles going ( again ) down the Labour route of women only list ?
How patronising
Have you any idea how appalling a candidate this woman was for Calder Valley last time round. The Tory vote dropped – the BNP went up four fold and we lost a seat any decent candidate would have won
Liz Truss is an absolute disgrace and so is the Conservative party for choosing her. Are the voters in her area supposed to believe what she says when she ommmited from her cv that she was a home wrecker? (the man she had the affair with has told friends that the liaison with the married Miss Truss has cost him his own marriage – he and his wife are divorcing)
How can we trust a person like this (with a child, not even a year old) when even her own family can’t?
It’s unfortunate to say, but David Cameron has also proved himself to fall far short of the standards of decency that a Conservative party leader should demonstrate – first he lies about Europe and a giving the United Kingdom a free vote and the he employs the services of a strumpet….oh dear, oh dear.
John Jones:
I can’t speak for the good electors of South West Norfolk, but I certainly wouldn’t vote for the kind of person who adopts such a high moral tone couched in low terms like “strumpet”.
Sir, do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
Craig Ranapia:
Well, the word ‘strumpet’ can mean a prostitute or promiscuous woman – I was using it correctly in the latter sense – or do you have another meaning for a woman who embarks on a sexual relationship with a man promised and married to another? It is hoped that those who have the duty to vote in this area of the country are more discerning than you when it comes to public servants and morality.
With regard to Ellee Seymours statement (above) that “I don’t think Liz’s past affair reflects on her abilities to perform her public duties.” – this is nonesense, trustworthy in private, tustworthy in public – why should those in her constinuency believe what she tells them, when even those closest to her can’t trust or believe a word she says? To then go on to effectively say, because men do it, it’s ok or “is there a party with 100% MPs who have never done the same? Life is never black or white.” – so, the argument is, because others do it and because they are not whiter than white, it’ ok for others to do it also? The fact is; when it comes to public life, when it comes down to people who’s hopes and fears for a better life are all hinged on their trust in you, then yes, life should be black or white and those who are public servants should be seen to be whiter than white both in their public and private lives.
John Jones:
I can only hope I would be more discerning than to live anywhere populated by “discerning” souls who compound their vulgarity and impertinence with smart-alec semantics. As my late Grandmother often used to say: An education doesn’t make you clever. All too often, the reverse is true.
John, as far as I am aware, Liz had no children when she had this affair. I can understand your sentiments about “trustworthy in private, trustworthy in public”, but this was a one-off affair, she is not a serial adulteress, she has apologised and, most importantly, her husband has forgiven her. I wonder if your strong views are because you have been hurt this way by someone you loved.
Craig, hi, and I agree with your comment about education not making you clever. My mother has a saying from Greece, “most clever people are as stupid as they are clever”.
Craig Ranapia:
Ok, as you’ve mentioned my previous comments then let’s examine them.
To be vulgar (as you suggest I have been)is to say or do something, something, such as an act or expression, that offends good taste or propriety – unfortunately, your own words condemn you, as, if you condone the actions of this individual, you certainly do not show ‘good taste’. As for propriety (meaning to conform within accepted standards of proper manners or behaviour) – in my view, I have commented and responded in a completely appropriate manner on someone who has shown not a smidgen of propriety….or do you think Elizabeth Truss has shown this quality in her personal and public life? This is a woman who, when interviewed last night, referred to her own actions and those who have commented on them in newspapers as “flim flam” (meaning nonsense or deceit) – the only person who has practiced deceit both to her family and the public is Elizabeth Truss herself.
As regards to my “impertinence†(the quality or state of being impertinent: as in irrelevance, inappropriateness, incivility or insolence) well Craig, perhaps you can demonstrate where I have been any of these? And as for “smart-alec semantics†– where Craig, where? I’m not quite sure how else you can describe an adulterous woman, who has no regard for anyone except herself and her own pleasure.
Your late Grandmother was absolutely right, an education doesn’t make you clever and, if I may add to her wise words, it’s a wonderful thing to be educated but it’s an educated fool who lacks any moral code.
