Full marks to the Cambridge Green Party councillor who came up with the wonderful 
idea of making juice from fallen apples which kids had been using as missiles to pelt at residents.
Coun Margaret Wright came up with the juicy idea to tackle anti-social behaviour and campaigners have been awarded a sustainable city grant for its purchase, which is intended for community and local use, not commercial.
Local residents are invited to take their apples along to the community apple press. The first pressing is planned at the city’s Stourbridge Fair on Saturday, September 12.
How long before other communities branch out in the same way …

What a great idea. We have lots of apple trees near us on common land and the fruit just goes to waste.

I’m really surprised they haven’t come up with some reason to squash the idea. Contravention of some law or other for the protection of the people.
It’s what we did long ago and everyone seemed to survive so I hope it takes off.

I was only thinking today, lamenting really, of the skills that have declined in families and are only kept alive through clubs and historical societies. We have become nothing more than consumers.
Years ago we used to go scrumping and would gather apples either to eat or to bake with. We would gather bottles to get the penny back. Now they are used as weapons.
Oh great. Now the apples are gone I hope that the councillor has her rock cake recipe handy.
When will we be rid of soft politicians such as these ? Will the nightmare ever end ???
