There is a great Mac cartoon in the Daily Mail today which brilliantly encapsulates the mood of the moment. It shows
Gordon Brown taking a phone call and then turning to his wife who is sitting on the sofa reading the Gurkhas story :
“Bad news, Sarah. Joanna Lumley has called a snap election,” he tells her.
With Esther Rantzen also forcing the political hand in Luton South, one wonders who really is running this country…
Update 28 May: Terry Waite may stand as an Independent in Suffolk (he lives near Bury St Edmunds) and columnist Simon Heffer has set his eyes on Sir Alan Haselhurst’s seat.

Who is running the country? Well, may I suggest that to an increasing extent that it is *shock horror* – the European Union. Actually, that’s not a suggestion, it’s a fact.
Parliament needs a clean sweep – the more people who come forward to stand, the better.
Well,in my country yes, celebrities run it
Celebrities imitate politicians and politicians imitate celebrities.
Bono is out on his own running the whole World.

Chris and Kevin, hence Conservative’s pledge to bring back more power to Britain.
Regarding Lumley, who I greatly admire, I heard her on the radio saying how she invited Phil Woollas to her house last night and they had fish and chips with champagne – and a farewell kiss! How many ordinary people get to invite a Minister to their homes. She’s welcome to the kiss.

The interview is interesting. Some people on the blogs are talking of ‘black ops’ being initiated against the British political class by its own security services for the way in which – and to whom – this data was released.
25% of politicians are clean according to our source.
Time for a general election.
Substitute:
“…for the way in which – and to whom – this data was released.”
with
“…by the way …” for it to make more sense. Both parties are up to their necks in it.
I do think the media is a bit more show biz than news these days…
Joanna Lumley has good reason due to her family history, and made things happen when Brown would not budge. Rantzen is just a publicity seeker.

Good question. The next Tory government will have to implement many controversial policies to sort out the mess New Labour created. When they do, the Tories will face an army of special-pleaders spearheaded by celebrities just as good-looking and popular as Joanna Lumley. More here on my PR blog:

The only thing worse than having the celebrities running the country is the fact that they couldn’t do any worse than those already running it. Does anybody actually know who is running the country?
We really do need a clean sweep and rid ourselves of all the present political parties involved in the expenses scandal. Those that weren’t actually stealing from had full knowledge that the others were and so are just as guilty. Time to start anew with the Euro elections and the only party not involved in any scandal. Don’t know which party it is? shame on you. Do some research on the web and make your vote count, for a clue and a laugh check out you tube.

I’d vote for Joanna but not for Esther!
I do think the media is more focused on selling papers then on informing people of any real news these days. Its just become one big circus show.
