My Uncle Peter was on the phone this morning with his red hot tips for the Grand National this afternoon.
He has contacts in the racing industry and will ring me sometimes to share news of a massive win. But when we go to the races together, he doesn’t seem to have that same luck. I
guess nobody is ever right all the time, but he reckons luck is on his side more often than not.
His personal favourites for today are No 11 Butler’s Cabin and No 13 Chelsea Harbour, while he has had a nod and a wink about No 17 Bewleys Berry. I haven’t made up my mind yet which one I shall back.
And there’s always a chance that No 1 Hedgehunter could pip them all to the post again after winning the race in 2005 and being the 2006 runner up.
If I had been going to Aintree, I know I would have felt under distinctly dressed, whatever I wore. There is no way I could have matched these colourful eye-catching eyefits which the northern lasses wore on Ladies Day yesterday. Stylish glamour it isn’t, but it was fun and they look like they know how to let their hair down and have a good time. And I’m all for that.
Still, if I lose today, I have another chance to try my luck this evening as we are meeting Uncle Peter for dinner and dog racing in Peterborough, of which I know nothing about.
Any tips anyone, for either race…
These fillies in the picture look awful in those outfits. Have they never heard of style?
[…] Ellee Seymour has some “nod and wink” tips for those who fancy a flutter on the Grand National […]
Crikey what a mess, are those women on some jokey hen party?
I’ve got Butler’s Cabin in the office sweepstake, so after your uncle’s tip I now going to actually watch and see if I win!
When I went dog racing last year I was told that the dog who had a pooh just before the race usually won!!! That was the only tip I was given…
Stuart, what a stroke of luck, you’re in with a good chance. My son was given Backbeat from a sweepstake. I went for Bewleys Berry and Slim Pickings either way.
Cherry Pie, I’m not sure if that information will be publicly available, but many thanks..
The drinks are on David tonight who picked the winner Comply or Die (what an awful name, more like the title of a horror film). Slim Pickings came 4th and I think Bewleys Berry came 5th. Not too bad, at least they finished, and I only lost a tenner. I must not get carried away tonight.
Stuart, bad luck, I think your horse fell. It looks like Uncle Peter is out of pocket too.
Curly, thanks for the link.
Husband Stephen is just back with younger son James and they both booked the winner too, but as Comply or Die was the favourite, it’s not a huge amount. I always prefer to back outsiders, it’s much more fun.
I like the blonde in yellow
I picked the winner as well – and because of the name and its relation to my job!
Comply Or Die is a brilliant name, and when you do the job I do quite appropriate!
My goodness, those outfits are something else. I’ll bet they were freezing as well as looking ghastly. Why are they dresses for the evening?
It seems my sister picked the winner too, and congratulations to you ThunderDragon.
JMB, the maxi dress is fashionable in the UK, they are not evening dresses.
We had no luck on the dogs in the evening. During our meal, Uncle Peter had a phone call with a tip to bet on No6 in the next race. I backed it and it came second from last. It was not Uncle Peter’s best day. Nor mine. But I expect the bookies did best of all, as usual.
I’m sure you would have wowed them, Ellee!
