I keep meaning to practise my clarinet more often, get stuck into the
garden, read all those books I bought last year, spend more time with my mum, visit the gym more frequently and enjoy longer country walks and bird watching trips. I’m never short of things to do – and that’s on top of work, chores and being a permanent family chauffeur.
So why am I taking up bridge classes on top of all this? Why, because I do love card games. While not being fiercely competitive, I do like to think strategically and outwit people, to surprise them.
I’m joining a new class with Simply Social in Cambridge this evening. Wish me luck – luck also has its part to play in card games.
I can imagine you being a good bridge player.
Playing cards is also a very social thing, and lets face it work work work is never a great thing.
My parents played bridge all the time and maybe that’s why I’ve never been interested in it. I do enjoy other card games along with some board games, though. Enjoy your classes but when the nice warm weather comes, sit out on the patio to play with your friends.
There’s lots of etiquette to learn, as well as rules, I think I’m going to enjoy it. And Leslie, your advice is good, once the sun shines,I shall be putting on my walking boots and exploring our beautiful countryside.
I’ve never played bridge – in fact don’t play cards at all but that sounds a really good thign to do Ellee. Good for you!
I can’t play Bridge…
Ellee: I can imagine that you will be great at keeping “a poker face” before you handily devour the others! 😀
Well Ellee, you can make friends and enemies playing bridge. Try not to burp or adjust your buttons.
Honestly, Ellee. I don’t know how you find the time. You’re such a character !
Oh crikey you’ll be knitting for the WI next and playing crown green bowls. Actually bowls is fun but in cards I prefer whist, or newmarket if there’s a crowd.
Good luck! I’m useless at card games – can’t count, for one thing…
Yet one more thing we have in common
I used to play semi-professional international bridge in the 80’s. Looking for a hot bridge partner in Cambridge.
Just been to Seville for ten days – no not on a Bridge Tournament – just seeking some HOT weather – hence I missed your Darwin post.
