I have two Tottenham mad fans in my house, and even my youngest son, a Man U supporter, cheered on Spurs’ terrific 5-1 victory over Arsenal last night – the first time they have beaten their arch rivals in nine years.
So you can imagine we had a very happy house last night as one ball after another hit the back of the net – and at the right end.
My husband sometimes lodges with a former Arsenal scout and coach and this would have been a very testing time for their friendship had they watched this match together.
However, the disappointing news is that my husband decided not to renew their Tottenham season tickets as an economy drive and they will now be unable to see their heroes play at Wembley.
*My mother-in-law comes from Tottenham, hence the reason they support Spurs. She was a land army girl and fell in love with one of the locals after being sent to the Fens to do her bit for the war, and never went back.
I’m not an Arsenal fan, but I suspect they won’t be crying in their sleep about this one seeing as it’s only the League Cup!

As a dyed in the wool Arsenal fan I am naturally hacked off at the result. Spurs outplayed us at the Emirates and took us to the cleaners last night.
The only solace I take is that this is essential experience for our youngsters. They have been overly hyped for a season and needed a hammering to make them realise they are not the finished article. A bit of humility might make them redouble their efforts on the training pitch.
I will say if the 1st XI had played rather than squad members then Arsenal would not have lost – not in normal time at any rate. Spurs can enjoy their Wembley final now. They earned their place.
Liked the love story at the end.

I’m sure that’s right, Letters… There was something in the way that Adebayor hit Bendtner – drawing blood – that told you Arsenal didn’t really care about reaching the Final! 😉
I’m a Yid myself (in the footballing rather than the ethno-religious sense of the word) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I watched the game with my mate in a pub in Bromley, surrounded by a bunch of disgruntled Gooners.
Just as well we’re both fairly big fellas, or we might have got into trouble, with our slightly ‘unrestrained’ celebrations 😀
