My MEP Robert Sturdy has had a string of media interviews
today following his meeting with Cambridgeshire Chief Constable Julie Spence to discuss population growth and the impact of immigration which is particularly prevalent in the Eastern region.
Robert initiated the meeting and was joined by three local MPs, Malcolm Moss, James Paice and Shailesh Vara.
It is naturally not just policing that is suffering, but hospital services and education too. Robert said:
"I was greatly concerned to learn about the impact faced by all our services and those concerns raised by Cambridgeshire Constabulary in meeting increased policing demands as a result of increases in population. Funding for police in Cambridgeshire has not kept pace with the true impact of population growth. Increasingly the police face more complex criminal investigations and incidents where perpetrators, victims and witnesses are not from the UK and require significant additional support from translations to welfare and support. This needs to be recognised by Government. "
He praised Julie for sticking her neck above the parapet and speaking out about policing in these difficult circumstances and plans to write to the European Commission seeking extra funding to address the cash shortfall to deal with it. I will keep you posted on this.
*I am off to Malcolm Moss’s constituency ball this evening, but the central heating has suddenly stopped working, I can’t locate the switch which I am supposed to flick when the boiler’s red light flashes. We are using these energy saving bulbs, but they are so dim and I can’t see a thing. Just found the torch, the batteries are dead. I have to collect son No 1 from the railway station and feed him before driving him off to his evening pub job where he works as a waiter. He is relieved to be working this evening else he would have to have his legs shaved along with his fellow team mates in his football team for Children in Need. Son No 2 needs feeding before football training. He also wants driving to a friend’s house to flog some golf clubs (no chance).
I badly need some warmth so I can comfortably slip into my new black Grecian style slinky evening dress bought specially for this evening, my hair has been styled for the occasion, though not piled quite as high as Amy Winehouse.
Hope son No 2 updates me on I’m a Celebrity tomorrow! I do find Janice Dickinson a scream and addictive to watch. She has certainly livened up what would otherwise be a very dull line up.
Now where’s that torch ….
Update: A report of the MPs police visit in the CEN.
These dim energy saving bulbs are the pits. What will happen when we are legislated into buying only this type? I hope you got some heat and knocked them dead in your evening dress.
I agree with Robert and Julie and they are brave to bring the matter to public attention.
Sorry about the heating, etc., Ellee but do have a great time tonight.
Ellee:Never a dull moment! 😀
“and plans to write to the European Commission seeking extra funding to address the cash shortfall to deal with it. I will keep you posted on this”.
This is like asking a burglar(whose just robbed you blind)for a loan.
– Every hour, we send £1M to the undemocratic, bureaucratic EU –
“Better off Out”
Just for the record, the heating flickered on and off, it was all a desperate rush, but we got to the ball on time and had a great evening.
She drove past me the other day!
It must be hard though, keeping tabs of immigrants (from Eastern Europe) – especially if they are of the sort that don’t like anyone keeping tabs on them. Easy pickings for some.
Reduce welfare to minimal levels.
It creates employment shortages among our own people and attracts opportunists from abroad.
They’re not listening – they’re not interested – increasing infrastructure and services will simply cause yet MORE people to come. Is this what we want ?
Robert Sturdy seems to be saying “Mass immigration is not a problem if we have the funding to do it.”
How does one become and MEP ?
Not for the first time I find myself in agreement with Jeremy Jacobs.
13th year without a proper audit of EU finances – let’s get out.
I’d have been more impressed if Mr Sturdy had said “Sorry, we’re full. Let’s start repatriating illegals in large numbers.” but then he glides above it all and has a great career in Euro politics to mind.
I’m no John Bull type character, Ellee – you know that – but I’m sick to death with our self-serving politicians and feel that my country has been stolen from me.
I want it back.
