Former dull, grey baggage carousels at Beijing airport in China are now adorned in colourful advertising as it embraces consumerism. The airport has 15 baggage carousels and traffics 48 million visitors annually.
Then it occurred to me that this would be the perfect platform at airports to display posters of children who have been abducted and could be flown out of the country.
What do you think?
lol Elle,
China teaching us to ‘advertise’ on luggage carousels – they’ll invent sliced bread soon.
But on a more serious point, are many children abducted in China, other than by one parent or other in divorce cases?
I think that is an excellent idea, Ellee…it should be implemented throughout the world.
Q9, I don’t imagine that info is publicly available, knowing what a closed culture China has.
Lee, I think this idea could work, let’s hope something can be done before Tesco jumps on the bandwagon.
I’m not convinced Ellee – everyone is in a hurry at baggage collection, you are coming into a country rather than leaving one and it would be expensive to update the ads on the carousel.
However, featuring missing children in the departures lounge area where people are hanging around for 2-3 hours with nothing to do other than shop…
Good idea Ellee.
Also Heather’s idea of departure lounge displays could be extended to major ports as well. It would not be difficult to have a large scrolling computer display with the images of children that have recently gone missing. It would only require one website that all police agencies have access to. A picture with a short description of the child could be displayed within a very short time after any disappearance.
Oh, puuhhhleeeaseee spare us more ‘missing kid’ bandwagon hopping. The internet is full of this crap, with ‘if it were your kid you’d want to help’ junk email nonsense. Get a grip, folks.
I think the more ways we can raise awareness of missing children the better. It would also be lovely to hear about the children who have been found and any methods which helped finding them. I like your idea – great stuff.
