A guest post by Muheed Jeeran urging Asian voters to vote Conservative:
Asian community voters should consider to changing their tradition of voting this time for a party which has the real concern to help the British public and poorest in the world.
I am an active Tory comrade and it is time for me to advise my fellow Sri Lankans and Asians living in UK to consider for Tories as your next ruling government of UK. I am writing down this article in the middle of the night and living 5000 miles away from this campaign field. I have started my political life by joining with the Conservative Party in 2006, and I too had the same concern what you are having about the Tories relationship with ethnic minorities. I believe it is my responsibility to clear this complete myth created by rival political parties against the Conservative Party.
Let me explain my journey in the party. The time I was joining the Tories, most people from our community looked at me like an alien to our community. The advice I received from my friends was that I am joining a party which don’t cares about the ethnics in UK and it is the party for whites in Britain. This made me very nervous in my political activities with the Tories. However, when I started to join with them in some political campaigns, I received a different picture about the conservative party. They have embraced me humbly as a friend, as a brother and as political colleague. They always discussed with me about politics and what need to make a better life for the people who living in Britain and for people living in poorest nations. They don’t discuss any sensitive matter about my race or community. That made me very confident to involve actively in the party, to sacrifice my time bringing our political principal to help the people. Within a very short period, I have managed meet and do politics with echelons of the Conservative party. They have treated me equally like any other members of the party. It is time for ethnic minorities to consider to putting a white cloth over the traditional barrier and coming forward to join hands with the Conservative party to bring the real change.
I have my personal experiences of some close conversation with Labour Party activists, and what I found that they always wanted to do cheap politics to mislead the public. Political campaign between parties is to talk about policies to develop the country and welfare of the public. When Boris Johnson was getting really popular in the London Mayoral election campaign, they have started to create lies about him and the Conservative Party to keep the traditional ethnic minority voters with them. They created the image of Boris Johnson as a racist and said he is similar to person who representing from the fascist party BNP. Their phone canvassing script was purely targeted at describing Boris Johnson as a racist by informing the voters that BNP has endorsed their second preference to Boris Johsnon.
That is the first dirty trick they implemented to the ethnic voters to keep away from Tories as usual. The second cheap campaign trick was informing Muslim voters about banning the Koran. They have made a leaflet about Boris Johnson’s arrival as a mayor will be dangerous to Muslim because he will ban the Islamic holy script Koran in London. This is an absurd lie created by Labour. But the Labour Party knows that the people comes from Asians countries can be easily exploited by creating fears about the politicians because of the political system they have face in their home nations Politicians can work over the law in South Asian politics which even a small kid knows in that environment. Therefore the fear is always natural to them. The leaflet about banning the Holy Script of Islam distributed in almost all the mosque in London with the committee members of the mosque. Muslim community took very serious that matter, though they don’t understand that the mayor doesn’t have such power to do that. This is one of the reason Ken Livingstone increases his vote base compare with previous election though he was very unpopular.
In this election also they have started to play their old dirty game which was revealed by David Cameron in the second leaders debate. And again I received another Conservative leaflet which I found on a Muslim group blog about stirring hatred in the Muslim community by creating false stories about the Jewish Community and Israeli issues. This is now circulating in the Muslim community to create anger against The Conservative Party and stay with Labour in this election. I am humbly requesting the Muslim community to not to trap with Labour’s dirty tricks. The Conservative is the people’s party and David Cameron wants to be your people’s prime minister. Please think very wisely before use your vote. I am confident that Cameron will deliver the right to our community to have a peaceful and prosperous life in Britain.
I always wanted to see the people in this whole world living happily and peacefully with a prosperous life. We ethnic minorities always concern ourselves about the welfare of your communities living in your motherland or ancestral countries. You are the people who really know what a terrible life is living under poverty in third world countries. It is a dream for every person living in this world to eradicate the global poverty. You are contributing your tax money to help the poorest living in the third world countries. But it doesn’t reach to the needy people in those countries due to poor strategies implemented by the current Labour government to safeguard the aid. Here are the comments made by the people living under poverty in the world.
“We keep hearing about monies that the government allocates for projects, and nothing happens on the ground.†— South African. “Tell the officials in the city that the money meant for the poor never reaches us. If they want to give assistance, they must give it directly to us and not through those men.†– A poor widow, Pakistan.
These are words I don’t want listen as well as you also because it hurt our heart. And especially a person living in UK has much better life than these people. You are the people who make a big difference in their life. But we need the right people to manage and used your tax money to this people who are living under extreme poor in the other part of the world.
To eradicate the Global Poverty, In July 2009, David Cameron and Andrew Mitchell, the Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, launched ‘One World Conservatism’, our Green Paper on International development. It has three main strategies these are VALUE FOR MONEY IN AID, Wealth Creation and Help to resolve the Conflicts in developing nations. Anyone can view their Green Paper by login into their party website. If you read the whole paper, and if you have voted for the Labour Party previously, you will definitely regret for your wrong choice and you will be very happy to choose the right party in this election.
The Conservative Party’s international development policy will seriously tackle global poverty. Conservative Party activists and parliamentarians are voluntarily involved to setup many projects in poor countries of Africa. This shows the clear indication that the conservative party is very serious to tackle the global poverty. The scale of poverty around the world is an affront to our common humanity. That’s why the Conservative Party has pledged, by 2013, to meet the UN target of spending 0.7% of national income as aid. Britain’s generosity must be combined with a tough new approach to getting value for money from our aid and to make sure every penny does the most good possible.
Everyone wants see a prosperous future to their younger generation with better education, health and job. The Conservative Party is offering you that opportunity to your younger generation as well as to you. Therefore, to elect them as a stronger government will allow them take bold decision to safeguard your welfare and your children. Therefore, you are the people who have the power to elect a strong government.
If we want to see a big difference of the life of a poor person who lives in a poorest nation, then yes, it is the time for you to choose the party which is ready to lead the world to eradicate global poverty. it is our responsibility to make a big difference for the lives of the poorest in the world, and we can make that difference by using our precious vote to vote for the Conservative Party on 6th of May.

A very powerful post, Muheed. Thank you.
Really strong post. Thanks
Hurrah!
Thank you for all your appreciation about my post. I know there are number of candidates are representing from the ethnic minorities for the Tories. That is the first step to end this So called Labour is the party for us.
An emotive piece, Muheed. I think that we will have the big society that we desire when we can genuinely engage with our fellow citizens irrespective of the usual “labels” of difference imposed on us. When we can talk about our similarites and common aspirations for our society and not just about the multiple labels used to fragment us. I think that Labour’s approach has been to divide society into various groups and then to court each group as a vote bank. Being asian means little to me, being an equal citizen who aspires to give back as much as possible to our society means everything. I believe that is what the Conservatives are asking us to do.
I think we’re in for a hung parliament… whatever that’s going to mean in actuality I haven’t a clue, but the people I’ve heard spouting on about “Germany functions that way and Germany’s doing fine” obviously don’t know very much about Germany!
A good message for us all tomorrow.
Vote clearly for a majority Conservative Party on Thursday.
I thought David Cameron yesterday said that he thought it was wrong for politicians to tell people how to vote ?
Oh, that just applies to other parties does it ?
Nich, are you referring to tactical voting? That’s not the message here. This is a personal message from someone who wants to warn against fear tactics used by Labour in the past to win the Asian vote.
I think people should vote with their conscience.
A few years of Cameron government will soon convince many Asians to return to better prospects. With the war over lets hope things will get better in Sri Lanka.
India will become a major economic player.
There is wealth in Asia not just poverty and the opportunities people will no longer find in Britain.
Manfarang
I agree there is a wealth in Asia. The problem who is having that wealth. Most of the money in India has with the few few rich people. There so many living under poverty and no one can’t deny that. We want make a big difference in their life. I am living my life as a normal ordinary person so I get opportunity speak to people. I am talking how people are suffering and how politicians are suddenly becomes very rich here.
I am all for helping people in the poorer countries but not at the expense of our taxes… we are taxed to the hilt in this country, .. Our petrol is dear, our roads are crappy, our Mental health care is beyond a joke, hospitals and schools have a hard time.. , we have a Police problem, crime , drugs, drink …. Our Forces are at the lowest possible and the most stretched, Moral is low, unemployment, etc etc etc Need I go on. Put OUR taxes back into this country and then help others, we are not a Piggy bank. I don’t want to sound mean, but it is down to the other countries government to help their people.
