Salahi discovered when they gatecrashed a presidential dinner at the White House hosted by President Obama and his wife Michelle.
“I belong here too,†is the message this clearly picture tells us. The beaming couple do not look like interlopers.
But how easy is it to get away with? Have you ever gatecrashed a party?
I did once unintentionally, in fact, it was a wedding reception. My husband and I were attending his cousin’s wedding and he dropped me off at a restaurant opposite the church as it was pouring with rain and he couldn’t find a car parking space.
I waited in the bar and one of the waitresses I knew asked me why I was there. I told her I was going to a wedding, and she directed me into a room where a wedding reception was being held.
I helped myself to a glass of bubbly and the room was so crowded that I couldn’t see the happy couple. I couldn’t work out why I was there, whether it was a pre-wedding drinks party. After a while, the bride came over and asked, “Excuse me, but do I know you?â€
I was so embarrassed, and quickly gulped down the champagne. It’s not every day I go to two weddings in the space of 10 minutes!
I say well done to the Salahis, they will dine on this for the rest of their lives, but it certainly makes one question the president’s security.
I gatecrashed a bash at the Carlton Club a few months ago. The guests were paying £150 to meet the former Prime Ministers, including Baroness Thatcher, and members of the Shadow Cabinet. My friend and I wondered what was going on, walked in unchallenged. Friends, including MPs, just started talking to us. Then the waiters brought us drinks, more drinks and ….
No I can’t say I have, but I think you’re right about them dining out on this forever.
I have once by accident. A few of us accidentally gatecrashed the president’s opening conference at our unions conference last year. We wondered why the drinks were free and it only dawned on us after a while what we had done. We would have been noticed but we weren’t evicted!
Yes, on the first weekend I moved to my home in Cumbria I popped in to all the pubs (I think there were 4 or 5 in those days, 2001). But one of them was a private party (a retirement or something). It was only after I got chatting to the guests there I realised my mistake, and they made me feel truly welcome!
Some security guuy at the White House is definately out of a job!
Yes, I have gotten away with a lot of things at a lot of places. If your dressed and act the part most people won’t bother you. I think its an equal balance between looking the part and acting like your supposed to be there.
I have walked thru department store inventory rooms, restricted sections of museum, etc… You just have to act like your supposed to be there (lie to yourself if you need to) and no one bothers you.
As for the presidents security…thats rather sad that they got away with it. They should really be as tight as the military. Walmart inventory room or a bar room reception is one thing, US President part – you should have ID badges practically.
My 25 year-old daughter thought the Salahis should be jailed! Jailed? I asked. For what, being rather brassy? For being rude?
Here were two people who came to dinner (suitably attired) at the People’s House. Why should this be a crime?
Yet speculation now is that this will backfire on the Salahis in that Mrs. Salahi will at least lose the opportunity to appear on some ridiculous ‘reality’ show.
I probably did, when I was young and even more foolish than I am now.
