Can you switch your mind off just like that? I always envy people who can, who can sink into a deep meditative, relaxed state whenever they wish.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr still swear by it after 40 years of practice. Sir Paul goes as far as to say, “It’s one of the few things anyone has ever given to me that means so much to me. For us, it came at a time when we were looking for something to stabilise us at the end of the crazy Sixties.â€
I thought of his comments as I read an article today by Fashion Editor Stacey Dugold in which she described her previous alcohol fuelled lifestyle. She is now on the wagon and feels a new person. It made me wonder if meditation could provide an alternative for those who feel they have to reach out for alcohol at the end of each working day to de-stress them, just like Stacey did.
Maybe we need a chain of stress-busting meditation centres around the country for us to go in and unwind at the end of the day instead of the pub or wine bar? They could be our glorious sanctuaries of tranquility because we know we are not going to find it home where there are so many chores to face. Maybe work places could provide this kind of haven too? I’m sure it would lead to increased productivity, as well as healthier staff.
Well I do know that certain countries, provide massage or some form of exercise for their staff, but not in this country, I think maybe Japan..
I wouldn’t mind trying it, but I love a glass of wine..!
Sounds good to me, Ellee. Mind you, I would prefer that they all come to me for couselling!
Do it to music Ellee….it’ll work, believe me!
I can usually switch off, but sometimes things are just too much making it impossible to switch off
for total relaxation… I run…its the only way to switch off my mind. Hope I will be doing alot of running in the next 3 month 🙂
Being able to meditate is a bugger, actually.
I quite often find myself doing it when I’m driving passenger trains.:-(
William Hague had withdrawal symptoms when he gave up TM
I’ve always thought it sounded like something I would like to do but sadly I am not able. I don’t seem to be able to switch off ever while I am awake.
What a great idea. If we all calmed down just a little can you imagine the impact on the World.
It is good to introduce meditation hour in schools & colleges. It would help build a healthy nation.
