While Barack Obama made sensational history last week, football fans are waiting to see if it could be made in Cambridgeshire too following the victory of aimage little known village team of amateur players called Histon FC who beat professionals Swindon 1-0 yesterday.

In the second round of the FA Cup, these local guys, who my husband supports, could play Leeds if the Yorkshire team beats Northampton in their next play off.

And it means Leeds, former FA Cup winners, could end up playing in this village outside Cambridge close to where I live where there are no fancy changing rooms; even my son James has played at the hallowed Histon grounds.

Leeds currently stand second in League One compared to Histon who are fourth in the non-league Blue Square premiership.

It’s an incredible match for Histon. It may not be earth shattering global news, but for locals round here, it’s groundbreaking news which could put them on the map.

UPDATE: Histon scored a sensational victory. Who would have believed it?

It’s this kind of unpredictability which makes football so exciting. Talk about David and Goliath! It would be the biggest match in Histon FC’s history.

Come on you Stutes…and please don’t ask my why Histon FC uses this as its nickname.

Never underestimate the underdog.
