Well I can honestly say that so far, nobody has ever got lost under my leadership as a guide for the Ramblers’ Association. Let’s hope my walk this evening is as successful as my previous jaunts.
I live very close to Wicken Fen, a stunning National Trust nature reserve, where I will lead my group of merry men and women.
In fact, when I led this same walk last year, romance blossomed amongst two of my ramblers and they are still going strong, they have also taken up bee keeping. I was told they might turn up this evening with some bubbly to mark their anniversary.
My great blogging friend Geoff met Sally while out walking last year – and they haven’t stopped, they have since walked hundreds of miles together across Europe. And they are still smiling.
I really enjoy walking, it’s lovely to feel the fresh air and gentle sun on my face, to watch nature evolve throughout the year – and it’s free! So you are most welcome to join me, and if you are footloose and fancy free, you could meet the person of your dreams, though I can’t make any promises.
You can always expect the unexpected on one of my walks – but hopefully we will all return in good spirits and safe and sound, and all the healthier for it.
Wicken Fen is beautiful. I believe that Bitterns and Bearded Tits breed there. Certainly Water Rails.
I think maybe you have a secret talent as a matchmaker!

If only I could but they won’t give me the time off.
Ellee if only I had known sooner I would have joined you , I have only been to wicken fen a couple of times but really liked my visits there…. we are having thunder here at the moment and a real downpour so i do hope its better for you.
That’s an excellent picture, Ellee.
I’m a big walker (yes – I spelled that correctly folks) I’m so jealous, Ellee. I do winter hiking, scrambling, camping too – anywhere with a pub and open fire and a bag of pork scratchings.
Well done, Ellee, but walking is something I do between city stores!
I do miss the rambling! It is too hot here just now for rambling except around the blissfully air conditioned “Mega Mall” in Souissi.
I miss trees, rain, profusions of grass and flowers (sigh); but I have lots of roses, sky, and delicious food.
Have a wonderful walk. I love that you have a dating service going on there. Well done.
Perhaps there’s a lesson for me to be learned here…I should start walking, and then I might stumble across my knight in shining armour! 😉
I’m not sure if love was in the air for any of my walkers – certainly the mosquitoes were. We did a slight detour and I took them to one of my favourite secret places off the beaten track where there are Jurassic limestone rock faces with dinosaur fossils and lots of ponds and riverways which were used by trams to transport the rocks.
We later came across a herd of cows and I would have normally have diverted to the left to avoid them, only Brian, his shirt unbuttoned to the waist, confronted them head on in their space, then raised both his arms and his large hand made walking stick, and the herd dispersed instantly. It was amazing, almost biblical. I practised that technique for the stubborn one or two that took longer to budge, but I think they preferred Brian’s authoritative tactics.
What a lovely story Ellee, about Sally and Geoff although it had come out on Sally’s blog recently. I’m glad you enjoyed your walk and you had a good turnout.
lol Elle, you’ve no idea how close I came to putting in an appearance and joining you for the walk at Wicken Fen.
Can’t think of a better way to finish off a busy day, than a casual stroll in the great outdoors.
Q9, You would really have enjoyed, it would have been so nice to have met you. Next time…
it looks absolutely fantastic! It would be the perfect antidote for all the studying!
Sally, a belated reply to say I would loved you to have come to hear all about your trip to Corsica. And the weather did stay fine.
