It is now 33 years since Elizabeth Swann went missing in early 1974. At the time she had been staying with a brother in Birmingham. Elizabeth said she had accepted a receptionist job in Gloucester and that she intended to hitch-hike there to take it up. She has not been heard from since. She was 23.
Her family are still desperate to know that Elizabeth is safe and well. Even if she does not want to regain contact, they urge her to make contact with the Missing People charity.
It was around this time that the evil Fred West was abducting and murdering young women in the Gloucester area. Maybe this is just a coincidence, but it is a scary fact too.
In memory of those who are still missing.
That is scary, as you say. How awful for her family to live with this not knowing for so long.
As Welshcakes says, it must be the not knowing that is especially unbearable.
It all seems too much of a coincidence. I hate to say it but I suspect she may have been a West victim.
Yes, as soon as I heard the words Hitch-hiking, Gloucester and 1974, I thought of West.
How awful that the only news about this case has been copied and pasted from other sites. Elizabeth’s case deserves some proper coverage.
If Elizabeth left on the 1st July 1974 and was picked up hitch hiking
somewhere near or on the way to Gloucester to take up that
receptionist’s job….and it disturbs me to say this,….but she may have
been held captive for several weeks.
The reason being that…and I read this in one of the many books written
about this case,…was that Rose was admitted to hospital with a severe
laceration to her hand…mid-August 1974.
Similar, in fact, to Fred with the same injury and treatment but six days after the abduction of Lucy Partington in early January, 1974.
A very worrying and chilling co-incidence.
