Hard to believe that George Bush’s team posted a nuclear bomb building guide on the internet? Who does he want to win this war on terror?
The aim was to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war. I wonder if they have shared their information in the same way?
But in recent weeks, the site has posted detailed accounts of Iraq’s secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf war which, experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb.
Surely Bush’s team should have strictly censored that kind of sensitive info. And if they had been really clever, they would have deliberately sabotaged the guide by publishing the wrong chemicals required. Mind you, the chances are that those who want to make a bomb know how to go about it anyway.
Wow! What a dramtic picture! I suppose it’s absurd to say it has beauty, but the science is beautiful, it’s the use to which it can be put that is obscene.
Actually, the principle of making the device is dead easy, you can easily find instructions to make on the internet (but I gues you might have MI5 on your doorstep if you put “how to make a n*****r b***b” into Google!). It’s the technology involved in putting it together and the means of delivery that’s difficult.
Their incompetence know no bounds. I hope we never get a government like that here…oh, hang on a minute?
Regrettably, they’re very competent in their incompetence!
Did you see that new BBC series last night with Jason Isaacs?
I’ve heard that it’s actually pretty difficult to make a successful nuclear weapon. Normally, only States would be able to put one together. Terrorists would find it much easier to make a “dirty bomb” to spread radiation on a smaller scale.
Tom Amos, Yes, I agree, a lump of radioactive material blasted off with conventional explosives. It wouldn’t need to be much and it would cause mayhem.
What next? Build your own a-bomb in 5 easy steps’?
Actually all it takes is some centrifuges, uranium and a couple of nuclear physicists. Tom Clancy had a book 10 years ago or so that talked about how it’s possible to figure out how to build a nuclear bomb by just doing internet searches. He fudged the details a little in the book so that his conscience would be clean. So it may not be that bad of a leak – the info’s been out there for many years.
Jeremy, No, I’m afraid I missed Jason Isaacs, I rarely have time to watch TV these days.
We know the technology and knowledge is there, but it’s how it is used to destroy nations that is truly terrifying. Who knows what kind of monstrosity is being developed right now that is worst than any previous bomb.
