I took a blogging break yesterday to celebrate Mothering Sunday at my family’s request. Normal blogging has now been resumed.
The Sunday Times Focus report yesterday highlighted how companies were doing Google searches to check up on applicants for new jobs. It appears you can have a perfect CV, but it will be worthless if the web search unravels a few home truths you either never knew about or deeply regret. This is a clear warning against making indiscreet comments on blogs.
This can include indiscreet photos taken at parties and published on the web by the sort of friend we can all do without, as well as boastful comments you made that later haunt you and prove to be your downfall.
I googled myself and came up clean. No skeletons in my blogsphere – yet!
Personally I take the opposite tack – unless I can read someones authentic voice how can I trust them? Better to see the skeletons than try and be someone you are not. I can imagine a day, not to soon, where you won’t take someone on unless they have a blog!
Not all people are as liberal minded as you Geoff, though we are all flawed as humans, even those making the decisions. A point worth remembering.
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
