If you didn’t manage to visit one of the 400-plus farms at the weekend which opened their gates to local communities during Open Farm Sunday, then you can find out more by playing this video I recorded for the NFU.
It shows families having a wonderful time learning about food production, building scarecrows, riding tractors, and so much more, as Jim Paice, the amiable Minister for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs also found out when he visited Russell Smith Farms in Duxford with his wife Ava.
With an acrobatic airshow demonstration flying overhead, I was a little concerned about the quality of my recording with this thundering background noise, but it thankfully eased off during the afternoon. It brought back memories of taking my sons out as toddlers, especially seeing the excitement on the faces of the little ‘uns eager to ride on tractors of all descriptions. The parents thought it was great too! Good fun was had by all, and well done to LEAF – which links the environment to farming – for dreaming up this annual open day.
